The Ocean Calls at Midnight

The ocean calls at midnight.

She whispers down the dock.

Searching for answers from those awake

at the striking of the clock.

The waves are first to hear her calls

as they rub against the shore.

Beating steady as a base,

 they morph into a roar.

The seabirds begin to stir now,

and soon they all take flight.

The beginnings of a sweet melody

echo far into the night.

I dip my feet into the dark,

and at once the dark glows green.

The bioluminescent algae have arrived

and are begging to be seen.

A fin cuts through the distant surf,

with stories from depths below.

He sings a chorus of far away shores,

stealing a moment of the show.

The ocean calls at midnight.

She whispers down the dock.

A base, a melody, and a chorus as one,

at the striking of the clock.
